The Tiger Lillies
DIRECTOR DESIGNER ANIMATOR COLLABORATION
THE TIGER LILLIES
Mark has worked with the Tiger Lillies over a ten year period, designing 7 Album covers, and creating over 6 shows as designer and director including Rime of the ancient Mariner. Lulu: A murder Ballad, Corrido De La Sangre, A Dream Turns sour. And worked on video and set designs for Poe the haunted Palace, either/or and the Last Days of Mankind.
The Tiger Lillies are a three-piece band, formed in 1989 and based in London. The English trio tours worldwide, and won international acclaim with their opera Shockheaded Peter. Defying any singular description, the Tiger Lillies’ surreal musical style is something of a mix between opera, gypsy punk, and old Paris.

REVIEWS
"The solidity of these materials and the intensity of their colours help build depth, a magical illusion paying homage to the mechanics of theatre but on a scale that could never normally be achieved" The Guardian
"with Mark Holthusen’s video animations projected on a gauze in front of them a screen behind. The effect is almost seamless" The Telegraph
"American visual artist Mark Holthusen to create a show that lingers between a Terry Gilliam-esque baroque film and a music concert." This is Cabaret"
Designed by Mark Holthusen, a three-dimensional and eerily realistic animation sees screens, props and pre-recorded footage fly across the stage, putting the audience into a state of awe."
“the disquieting humour and unsettling storyline makes the show hard to resist even if you cannot be sure of its exact nature.”
The band really do appear to be under the gorgeous turquoise sea, in a fiery, red-hot hell or mixing it quayside with the salts. In the very best sense of the phrase, you don't know where to look. Broadway World
